Liverpool and other Premier League clubs could be told on Thursday about any outcome in Manchester City’s legal challenge over the league’s Associated Party Transactions (APTs) rules
Premier League clubs including Liverpool could reportedly be told on Thursday about any outcome in Manchester City‘s legal challenge over the league’s Associated Party Transactions (APTs) rules. The rules regulate commercial deals between clubs and bodies linked to their owners and were tightened earlier this year after being introduced in 2021.
An arbitration hearing surrounding the legality of the league’s APT rules was held between June 10-21 this year. BBC Sport report that top-flight clubs could be told at Thursday’s meeting if the rules have to be amended, depending on the outcome of City’s legal challenge.
It is reported that league bosses are likely to defend the huge amount of money spent on legal costs having spent more than £45million last season due to various disputes over its financial regulations. It is said they will emphasise the need to uphold rules whilst referring to the high number of recent cases.

“Profit and Sustainability Rules are now in place and we are starting to see clubs breach, and fans having to experience the uncertainty that creates. We want to move to a new system that people have confidence in and can comply with and move away perhaps from long-running regulatory cases.”
In a separate case involving the Premier League, an independent hearing is currently taking place regarding Man City’s 130 charges for allegedly breaching the league’s financial rules. The hearing is currently in its second week with an outcome not expected for some time.
The potential punishments facing City, if they are found guilty, could be astronomical with the case unlike any other. That means a significant points deduction, expulsion from the Premier League and the stripping of titles is all possible. City vehemently deny all charges.
