Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah has reacted to the Reds’ win over West Ham on Wednesday after scoring an own goal against the Hammers
Liverpool saw off West Ham in the Carabao Cup third round with a 5-1 win at Anfield on Wednesday. Jarell Quansah‘s first-half own goal got Arne Slot‘s team off to a poor start before Diogo Jota equalised minutes later.
It was a comfortable evening from there on in as Jota and Cody Gakpo’s braces as well as a goal from Mohamed Salah saw the Reds thrash their opponents who were down to 10 men late in the second half. Liverpool‘s victory over the Hammers has set up a fourth-round tie at Brighton who beat Wolves 3-2 in the third round last week.
And in the immediate aftermath of Wednesday’s win, centre-back Quansah has reacted on social media following his own goal against Julen Lopetegui’s side. “Through to the next round”, he said in an Instagram post.

The 21-year-old could do little about his own goal after a defensive muddle saw Wataru Endo smack the ball against him. It was the first own goal of Quansah’s senior career.
Shortly after defender’s own goal, Sky Sports commentator Seb Hutchinson, referenced Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher’s famous own goal record. He said “In your career, you are going to score an own goal or two aren’t you?”
Carragher laughed whilst commentating and soon responded: “Yeah, yeah, yeah! If he scores one every 100 games then he’s done well. That was my ratio.”
And at the start of the second half, once more referencing Quansah, the commentator said it was “hopefully his last” own goal. Carragher joked: “Oh no, it won’t be his last!”
