The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning as Merseyside is set to be battered by thunderstorms
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain and thunderstorms across Merseyside this weekend. The weather agency has warned there is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded.
There is also a chance damage could be caused to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds. The yellow weather warning has been issued across the north west and is set to continue into Monday with heavy rainfall expected throughout the course of the day. A Met Office map shows the areas of the region rain is expected to hit worst and how much is expected to fall.

Saturday, September 21 – 8pm
Rain will start heading towards Merseyside from the north east at around 8pm this evening. Rainfall is expected to get heavier as the evening progresses.

Saturday, September 21 – 9.30pm
From 9.30pm onwards the rain will hit Liverpool with 0.5mm expected to fall. Throughout the next hour the rain will move further north covering larger parts of the region and reaching Southport.
Saturday, September 21 – 10.30pm
Liverpool can expect to see 2-4mm of rainfall from 10.30pm. The rain will shift towards the west as we head into the early hours when dry patches will begin to appear.
Sunday, September 22 – 12.00am
According to the weather map, at midnight the rain will have largely cleared up for most of the region with only small patches expected. North Liverpool will remain mostly dry.
Sunday, September 22 – 02.30am
There will be complete dry spells for Merseyside throughout the early morning as the rain moves further west.
Sunday, September 22 – 07.00am
Throughout the morning rain will begin moving in from the east, with 4mm of rain expected to hit parts of the region. This is expected until 9am when there will be plenty of dry patches.
