Anshuman Shastry said he bit into the burger and spat it out straight away
A man said he was “disgusted” by what he found after biting into a burger from Burger King. Anshuman Shastry, who lives in Birkenhead, had ordered from Burger King in The Pyramids through Just Eat.
His order came to just over £30 and mainly consisted of chilli jam halloumi burgers and two vegan Royales. The 28-year-old, who is Hindu, said it arrived on time and it appeared all the items were as ordered. However, after the Chester University student bit into his meal, he realised this wasn’t the case.
He told the ECHO: “When I bit into the burger and realised I spat it out straight away. It was disgusting. I didn’t even eat the rest of the order. I was really sad and it’s all I thought about for the next two days. It’s been weeks and I can still feel the taste on my tongue.”

Anshuman said he experienced a “strange and unique flavour”. After taking off the top bun to check the contents, Anshuman said he felt “devastated” as he realised there was bacon in the burger.

The student is a vegetarian and has been all his life for religious reasons. Burger King’s chilli jam halloumi burger does not have bacon listed as an ingredient. Burger King has apologised and said it is carrying out a full investigation into the matter, and where necessary it will “implement re-training for staff to ensure that all customers have the best experience possible”.
Anshuman said: “I’ve been a vegetarian all my life so it was devastating for me. I do it for religious reasons and I make sure I don’t even touch eggs as well. It was so disappointing and I was really let down.
“I should get what I ordered, what I paid for. It’s a part of me, a part of my religion, not eating meat. It was something I never wanted to change.”
Just Eat refunded some of the money for the order to Anshuman. A Just Eat spokesperson told the ECHO as it is an online marketplace, the responsibility for the issue lies with the restaurant partner.
A spokesperson for Burger King said: “We apologise for the impact that this incident has caused to the individual concerned. All Burger King UK staff are trained to follow strict protocols, which are in place to avoid cross-contamination of meat and vegetarian meals.
“We are carrying out a full investigation into this matter, and where necessary will implement re-training for staff to ensure that all customers have the best experience possible with us.”
