BBC Strictly Come Dancing 2024 is officially underway with the first live show of the series – but former Corrie star Shayne Ward left viewers distracted as he debuted a new look
New set of celebrities prepare for Strictly Come Dancing
Strictly Come Dancing has officially started with the 15 contestants hitting the dance floor for the first time, but Shayne Ward’s appearance has caused quite a stir among viewers. The ex-Corrie actor has debuted a new look, swapping his usual short cut for a head of longer curls.
Shayne’s bold ringlets have sparked debate as he performed a Samba with professional partner Nancy Xu. On social media platform X, one viewer commented: “I’m finding Shayne’s hair distracting and disturbing #Strictly.”
While another remarked: “I keep forgetting who Shayne Ward is. I blame the longer hair. #SCD #Strictly”. A third added: “The biggest revelation of #Strictly is that Shayne Ward has hair.”
Another fan compared him to a music legend: “I look at Shayne Ward with his curly hair and just see Leo Sayer. #Strictly”, reports the Mirror.

The 2024 series of Strictly has burst onto screens following an electrifying launch show. In week one, the celebrities and their pro partners aim to make their mark on the leaderboard with their inaugural performances.
Although the judges will offer feedback and scores, no one faces elimination in the opening week. The real pressure begins in week two when the competition heats up and the first celebrity will be sent packing.
Viewers will have the opportunity to participate when the lines open in week two next Saturday (September 28), with the first elimination of the series airing the following night (Sunday, September 29).
Tonight’s action will commence at 7pm on BBC One, but there won’t be a results show this weekend.
Currently leading the betting odds are X Factor victor Shayne Ward and JLS celebrity JB Gill. However, former professional dancer Erin Boag has cautioned that Miranda star Sarah Hadland is also a strong contender.
