Coronation Street’s Betsy Swain admitted she was hiding something big earlier this week about Joel Deering and Lauren Bolton – and now the troublemaker has revealed all
Coronation Street’s Betsy Swain has finally shared the huge secret she has been keeping. The soap youngster (Sydney Martin) made her debut on the cobbles earlier this year, as the daughter of DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers). Betsy then became involved with sicko solicitor Joel Deering (Calum Lill) – who groomed and abused Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) before trying to kill their baby, Frankie.
This week though, it was revealed that Betsy actually had a big part to play in Joel’s evil schemes. During Wednesday’s (September 18) episode Betsy made a worrying confession to her friend Sabrina (Luana Santos). Betsy spoke about Lauren’s baby Frankie – who was born prematurely after Joel drugged Lauren while she was pregnant. And doctors now believe his ill health could be linked to the tablets Joel gave her.
Later on in the episode, Betsy even went and visited Lauren and Frankie in hospital – leaving Lauren confused over who she was. Betsy then told Lauren she was “sorry” but didn’t explain why, leaving her rattled as she fled.

And during Friday’s episode (September 20) Betsy came clean. After confessing to Carla Connor (Alison King), Betsy then revealed all to mum Lisa. An emotional Betsy admitted that Joel got her to purchase the drugs, that he used to try and kill baby Frankie.
She revealed that he gave her money to ring up a private health clinic to get the tablets and pretend that she was pregnant and wanted an abortion. Fortunately, Betsy’s confession meant that the police were able to charge Joel with trying to kill Frankie.
This was something that was proven later on in the episode, when Swain played Joel a recording of him and Betsy ordering the drugs. The confirmation of Betsy’s secret will no doubt not come as a total shock to fans, who predicted what she was hiding at the start of the week.
On a Facebook Corrie page, one person said: “Bet she purchased them on Joel’s behalf.” Someone else added: “I think Joel got her to order them for him.” A third penned at the time: “I think it’s going to come out that Joel got Betsy to order the pills.”
